Green is the charming color of 2011.
Soirees, shopping sprees, wedding receptions and all other bridal destinations are reportedly to be awash in green. Youve gotten your green light so plan ahead. Green it is!
Green is contagious! Consider this: On Friday, Financial Times contributor, Carola Long, posted that her favorite Pantone pic for summer/autumn/fall: ever-green. She made a convincing argument in a charming article.
During the US Open, the Irish Eyes were smiling as Rory McIlory, who hails from the Emerald Isle, followed his Gaelic countryman, Graeme Mc Dowell, in winning the US Open. Not only the youngest player at 22 years old to do so, Mc Ilory shattered 12 US Open records including those by Tiger Woods. Worldwide, golfers witnessed this green, as in young, phenomenon joined the ranks, and in many cases, eclipsed them and their all-time records in the course of three afternoons of golf just outside our nations capitol, in Bethesda, Maryland.
So, green it is!
It is a natural companion to red Beguiling purplish reds are predicted for this fall, and currently play a suitable duet with a summer spectrum of pinks. Picture: a Nantucket basket brimming with pink hydrangeas against its leaves of deep green! Refreshing.
As in the world of pure color, green does not play a primary role, . Yet, commands attention and a following.
Redheads know the magic of green. Fashionistas understand that green Ferrogamas, Pradas, as in shoes and handbags, can give a punch that will not only be remembered, but emulated as in green with envy.
Green. Wikipedia tells us there is much folklore, fanfare and following of this color through the ages, well, since the 700s when the word first flirted in our lexicon. Heres a few green tidbits from the mundane to some to give us pause:
Green is common dominator in nature, on land and on the sea. Animals use this hue for camouflage, as do 21st century hunters. It has worked it way to describe humans: a green thumb, green around the gills, green as an intern.
Green has a slightly negative persona: Try this! Celtic traditions ie. Irish, avoided green as unlucky. Apparently they have not saluted their flag, and the American immigrants never marched the Irish Day Parade down Fifth Avenue in NYC). Who doesnt turn Guinness green on St. Pattys Day? What about the little Leprechaun? Green, no?
Once upon a time in the British Empire, green cars, and wedding dresses and theatre costumes were objects of superstition.
Dazzler Pippa Middleton, Kates sister, donned a long green silk dress by Alice Temperley to the Royal Wedding reception. So much for that Celtic myth.
More green? Financial pubications are awash in the telling of the green, and financiers to the selling of the Green.
Citizens of the Emerald City in the 1939 film classic, Wizard of Oz, wore glasses to make everything picture perfect: green. Did Dorothy, the Lion, Tin Man all look green to the Mayor? No wonder she said what is to be the most remembered endings in a movie, And, oh no, Auntie Em, theres no place like home. Both Dorothy and Toto know Kansas has the wheat fields, not the green fields.
Aubrey, an autumn bride here in Houston, late yesterday afternoon, spent some time with me selecting her wedding invitation. Her color: green! Of course, the color Gods, knew I was editing this green blog and were present and accounted for.
She is having a ceremony and reception at a hacienda on top of a hill overlooking beautiful Lake Travis outside of Austin. Her goal? She wants to capture the hues of the trees and grass. I asked her why green, what does it mean to you? Her reply:
Green is the color of life!
Need we say more! Thank you Aubrey.
