Creating playful ensembles with pencil skirts is an ongoing project with many of my clients because tight pencil skirts are often thought of as overly corporate, strict and bombshell, especially when they are matched with a classic pair of black pumps. Of course, there is a time and place for strict corporate pencil skirt outfits, and its a great look for some specific work environments. But theres also room for a less serious pencil skirt outfit in a more casual setting. So with de-bombshelling strategies and colour top of mind, were going to tickle that pencil skirt until it laughs right back at us.

Not all floral prints are created equal.

There are whimsy bohemian vintage florals, fade into the wallpaper florals, bold hyper digital florals, graphic pop art florals and ditsy feminine wile filed florals. The list of the floral tribes goes on and on.

Im pretty fussy when it comes to my florals, with some tribes garnering more love from me than others.

The vintage Kenzo florals (as seen on me in photo) in my wardrobe are my long term favorite child section of my closet.

Parsons Cancels John Galliano Workshop

NEW YORK, United States — Parsons The New School of Design in New York City has canceled a four-day workshop by the controversial fashion designer John Galliano.

Galliano was creative director at Christian Dior when he was fired in 2011 for an anti-Semitic rant. Hes currently involved in a lawsuit against his former employer.

When you look at the current fashion trends, there is a bit of influence from war time military styles. But what is seen today is nothing like what happened during World War II. During and after WWII there was a flurry of designer styles that incorporated leaner styles requiring less material. The nipped waist became popular. The type of material changed too and clothing fabrics like nylon and rayon were extensively used.

After World War I the fashion styles were changed to incorporate trench coats and raised hems. After the Vietnam War, fashion looked much more military with Army green and fatigue styling incorporated regularly. So what influence has the Afghanistan and Iraq wars had on fashion?
